How does predictive quality help the casting industry?

it-RSC uses predictive quality with great success to support engine production at a major automotive manufacturer. The necessary deep learning calculation processes run on vCAX, a high-end virtualisation platform.

To optimise quality assurance, it-RSC applied a deep learning process to the production of raw components at the OEM. Faulty raw components are now detected early on and removed from the downstream production process. The project utilises the numerous values and sensors that are already being measured during production. The neuronal network (deep learning network) then calculates whether the interaction of current values will result in OK or NOK raw components. Thanks to the quality prediction, additional value-added processes are no longer wasted on faulty components.

Deep learning is ideally suited to all current casting processes. By determining the precise process step where the fault occurs, it delivers high cost savings because no value added is required after this point.

Deep learning processes require significant processing power at a level not generally available in companies. To avoid imposing a burden directly on customer IT systems, it-RSC supplies the necessary technology itself. vCAX, as the system is called, is delivered in a flight case and can be up and running in a day.
