The DIN standard »Determination of the water-soluble content of chloride, sodium and potassium in solid waste materials by means of press fluid according to the press method» is an option for the rationalization and quality control as well as a faster alternative to the standard procedures of elution and extraction.
Both standard processes are based on the leaching of the soluble chlorine fractions with water as a suitable differentiation criterion. According to both DIN standard processes, the water-soluble chlorine part equals the content of the inorganic chlorine.
Practical experience shows, that the present DIN standard procedures 12457 and 15105 require considerable financial and time-consuming efforts. After pressing the waste material the extracted liquid can be analyzed immediately given the fact, that the content of inorganic chlorine is homogenously spread in the fluid. Furthermore, the production of representative 100g or 1 g samples required for the elution or extraction is prone to errors. For the pressing sample amounts of about 1 l can be used.
