Product description

The bombings of Madrid (2004) and London (2005) have shown: railway stations and trains are potential targets of attacks with explosives or radioactive substances. The critical transport infrastructure has to be protected in better ways and specific measures for the protection of trains need to be developed. Suitable preventative security measures for the protection of the German-French High-Speed Train Networks - ICE and TGV - regarding terroristic threats are the goals of the project RE(H)STRAIN. The Institute for Safety and Security Research (ISF) at the Bonn-Rhein-Sieg University of Applied Sciences (H-BRS) developed and tested a system which allows to check individuals and luggage at railway station entrances or train entrances can be checked contactless regarding specific gaseous explosives or radioactive substances as part of so called dirty bombs. RE(H)STRAIN is a German-French joint research project funded by the Federal Ministry of Education and Research (BMBF) and the L'Agence nationale de la recherche (ANR). The exhibit shows the laboratory model of such a Hazardous Material Detection Portal
