The genubox security platform allows intelligent remote maintenance almost anywhere in the world. A typical example: a manufacturer of marine engines using remote access to monitor and maintain the main propulsion units of a container ship. Motor data is collected and analyzed before being transmitted to the manufacturer by satellite and when maintenance is required, the necessary control commands are transmitted to the ship. Use of the genubox means that these and similar tasks such as the remote maintenance of manufacturing robots, print machines or wind turbines can be carried without any compromise in security.
To this end the genubox comes equipped with a VPN gateway, a firewall and an application platform. The VPN gateway establishes an encrypted virtual private network (VPN), allowing maintenance access between the manufacturer's service center and the remote system. Connections can be made via Ethernet, DSL, ISDN, cell network or satellite. The firewall ensures that maintenance access only leads to the system being maintained and the application platform allows installation of additional remote maintenance applications as required. A central management station is used to administer the genubox, allowing comfortable operation of larger installations.
