HANNOVER MESSE 2018, 23 - 27 April
Fraunhofer-Institut IIS
For a fundamental approach to digitize applications and processes, items such as e.g. Workpieces or everyday objects get equipped with electronic tags, which have communication and positioning functions. These become so-called Smart Objects, which are integrated into a communication network, the (Industrial) Internet of Things. These Smart Objects can be embedded or fixed in other objects and can capture data about positioning and sensors, as well as perform decision and control functions. Smart Objects with Positioning- and Communication SkillsBy combining positioning, environment model and process knowledge, the Fraunhofer IIS enables a context-dependent behavior of the Smart Objects. Together with the s-net® technology from the Fraunhofer IIS for extremely power-efficient wireless multi-hop sensor networks, Smart Objects can be operated over several years. As a Low Throughput Network (LTN), s-net® also allows high positioning accuracy and decentralized decision logic directly on the Smart Object even with limited bandwidth.
