Hydrogen is an environmentally friendly and powerful energy carrier with a broad range of applications, e.g. in FCs or ICEs. The safe, efficient and reliable storage of hydrogen is an important element in a hydrogen-based energy cycle. Metals, intermetallic compounds and alloys can absorb gaseous hydrogen forming solid metal-hydrogen compounds.
At Fraunhofer IFAM Dresden, the hydrogen laboratory provides the opportunity to test and evaluate commercially available hydride tanks or cartridges under realistic operation conditions.Further, the hydrogen uptake characteristics (storage capacity, kinetics, heat transfer) of most hydrogen storage materials can be examined.
