For the hydrogen production from renewable energy sources the method of electrolysis shows promising potential. In order to optimize the performance and degree of efficiency of the electrolyser stack, a special test station is needed. FuelCon offers the test station series Evaluator-EC for cell tests and Evaluator-ES for the automated testing of alkaline or PEM electrolyzer stacks.
The test stands Evaluator-EC (cell level) and Evaluator-ES (stack level) enable the automated testing in the power range from a few watts up to 5 MW in electrolysis voltages of up to 1,000 V and maximum current up to 1,000 A. The system is specially designed for high-pressure electrolyzers with comparatively high operation pressures up to 100 bar. Thus, energy can be saved during the later hydrogen compression within the hydrogen storage process.
Through sophisticated process engineering, a well-regulated water supply of the electrolyzer stack with a constant pressure level can be assured and therefore avoids pressure peaks. In order to gain information for the reduction of cell voltages, the parallel cell voltage monitoring of up to 700 single cells is possible.
For the fully automated testing of SOFC electrolysers we offer retrofittable extension options for our standard SOFC test rigs Evaluator-HT. The centerpiece is Fuelcons proprietary pulsation free evaporator assembly. Due to the extremely uniform evaporation of the water pressure, fluctuations and associated fluctuations in the cell voltages are avoided. The steam production can be carried out with or without the use of carrier gas.
Evaporator assemblies are available in different sizes according to customer requirements. The desired amount of steam and temperature is precisely adjustable.
