Product description

The new U1000 matrix converter from Yaskawa enables asynchronous or synchronous machines to be driven effectively, while at the same time ensuring the energy-efficient recovery of excess braking energy. Unlike in conventional inverter drives, Yaskawa has opted for a technology that is barely used in low voltage applications but which boasts some extremely interesting benefits.
The U1000 matrix converter from Yaskawa is a highly-efficient, regenerative direct converter for driving asynchronous and PM machines with or without a speed sensor. Different models cover a broad output range from 2.2 to 500 kW. Unlike traditional recovery solutions, the U1000 functions without a DC bus, and switches the three phases of the network almost directly to the motor winding.
The mains currents during operation of the U1000 are virtually sinusoidal, both in motor and regenerative operation. Harmonics are reduced to a minimum. This means that losses in network components, such as transformers or cables and lines, are reduced and enables the efficiency of a system to be increased. Moreover, the level of interference with other system components is also reduced considerably. Failures, the causes of which are typically very time consuming to determine and which result in system shutdown, are prevented.
An EMC filter is integrated into the U1000. External, otherwise customary components, such as DC reactors or LC filters, are not required. In spite of this, it requires up to 50% less space than conventional integrated solutions with sinusoidal feed and recovery. If you replace 12-pulse applications, for example, with the new matrix converter, the ratio shifts even further in favour of the U1000. Eliminating external components not only simplifies the system structure but also means that the converter is extremely quick and simple to install.
