Dr. Michael Emonts, born in 1977, studied Mechanical Engineering, with focus on Production Technology, at the RWTH Aachen University. From April 2005 to September 2007, he worked as a scientific assistant in the department for Production Machines of the Fraunhofer Institute for Production Technology IPT. His key areas as a project manager had been: the integration of laser technology into production systems, the development of laser-assisted sheet metal working, and the development of adaptive laser beam guidance systems. As a team leader he was furthermore responsible for the group “Fiber-reinforced Plastics and Laser System Technology” from October 2007 to December 2009. From January 2010 to March 2016, Dr. Emonts worked as Chief Engineer for the Fraunhofer IPT and was responsible for the department of “Fiber-reinforced Plastics and Laser System Technology”. Since April 2016, he is Divisional Chief Engineer for Production Machines at Fraunhofer IPT. Dr. Emonts is the CEO of the Aachen Centre for Integrative Lightweight Production (AZL) of RWTH Aachen University since June 2012 and, since December 2012, he is Co-Founder and Managing Director of AZL Aachen GmbH – a competency network in the area of lightweight production and strategic guidance. Furthermore, he is Co-Founder and Managing Director of Conbility GmbH since January 2015.
