Beschreibung

The amount of terminals in vehicles and factories increase because of increased number of sensors and electrical devices. To guarantee a low failure rate, a longer lifetime, higher reliability and excellent electrical conductivity, becomes more demanding. Critical failure mechanisms are wear and fretting corrosion. As a consequence, electrical functions fail. To improve the performance of the electrical connections, a coating is applied on the base material. Although the noble coatings can protect the electrical connections from fretting corrosion, these coatings experience fretting wear. A calculation methodology is investigated with consideration of deformation of contact surfaces in electrical connections, the surface topography and the change in surface condition by involving the third bodies in the model. The wear through of the coatings can be precisely forecasted based on the data from tests with less than 10 % sliding distances, which significantly accelerates the testing.
