HANNOVER MESSE 2020, 20. - 24. April

Aussteller-Pressemitteilungen

Christian-Albrechts-Universität

From 1 to 5 April, more than 6,000 exhibitors at the Hannover Messe will present the latest developments in the fields of digitalisation, Industry 4.0 and research. Kiel University (CAU) is among them. On Wednesday 3 April, Schleswig-Holstein’s Minister of Economic Affairs Dr Bernd Buchholz has invited three experts for a specialist discussion on the topic of "Springboard Innovations and Digital Economy". At the CAU booth in Hall 2, he will host discussions with Hans-Peter Hiepe, head of the project group "Agency for Springboard Innovations" in the Federal Ministry of Education and Research (BMBF), Dr Axel Müller-Groeling, Director of the Fraunhofer Institute for Silicon Technology ISIT, and Dr Sandra Hansen, material and battery researcher at the CAU. The event will be chaired by Heike Schmoll, science journalist. The innovation system in Germany has developed positively in recent years. However, the focus so far has largely been on evolutionary innovations that build on existing technologies, products and services. There are hardly any completely new offers or digital business models. One reason for this is that too few results of fundamental research are translated too slowly into value creation, jobs and the immediate improvement of people’s quality of life. A potential solution could be a new agency for the promotion of springboard innovations, as planned by the federal government. In addition to the existing research promotion structures, it should enable new, high-risk research and development projects. In the coming years, the new agency will have funding of up to 700 million Euros per year for small and large competitions, as well as actively managed high-risk projects. An example of such high-risk projects is battery research. An important factor will be the ability to link up with existing institutions for the application of research, such as the Fraunhofer Institutes. The main theme of Kiel University’s trade show appearance is "Kiel University Interfaces". The CAU’s partners are the Ministry of Education, Science and Cultural Affairs and the Ministry of Economic Affairs, Transport, Employment, Technology and Tourism of Schleswig-Holstein, the Business Development and Technology Transfer Corporation of Schleswig-Holstein GmbH (WTSH) as well as the Fraunhofer Institutes from Itzehoe and Lübeck.
