We Solutions , based in Hong Kong, wants to build an automobile plant in Shanghai where many components will be manufactured using additive manufacturing processes. It will be supported by Chinese billionaire Li Ka-shing and Shanghai Alliance Investment, the city government’s private equity arm. The factory is designed to build around 10,000 electric cars per year. The US-based Divergent 3D will supply the printing technology. They specialize in cars and already presented a sports car manufactured with a 3D printer in 2015 called the Blade . Above all, We Solutions intends to supply the Chinese market with electric taxis, and production will start in 12 to 18 months after completion of the crash tests.

The Italian company X Electric Vehicle (XEV) wants to produce 3D printed electric vehicles for the Chinese market as well in collaboration with Polymaker . The LSEV model will drive a range of 150 km and at a maximum speed of 70 km/h. With the exception of windows, seats and chassis, the manufacturer wants to produce all visible parts of the car through additive manufacturing. The LSEV will launch on the market in China for about 10,000 US dollars, starting in the second quarter of 2019. According to XEV, there are also 7,000 pre-orders from the Italian postal service and a leasing company.
