The 5G Alliance for Connected Industries and Automation (5G-ACIA) was founded on April 3, 2018, by the German Electrical and Electronic Manufacturers' Association (ZVEI). With the objective of establishing 5G in industrial production and making it industry-capable right from the start, the 5G-ACIA is actively involved in standardizing and regulating 5G, identifying and analyzing possible use cases and the associated industrial requirements.

Representatives of the classic automation and production industry as well as the relevant ICT companies are all taking part in the initiative. The current 26 members include Bosch , the German Research Center for Artificial Intelligence (DFKI), Deutsche Telekom , Festo , the Fraunhofer Gesellschaft , Huawei , Infineon , Siemens and Vodafone . Another member: the Swedish company Ericsson , which published its highly respected study “The industry impact of 5G ” in February 2018. According to the analysis, more and more companies across the globe are considering 5G a crucial future technology.
