A new battery should give impetus to e-mobility

A lithium ion traction battery from Switzerland is making the development of electric vehicles through to readiness for series production more cost-effective and faster. It comes in a standard design and should be suitable for vehicles of all sorts.

As the technology company ecovolta reports , battery packs have had to be developed specifically for each vehicle type until now. As it can take up to two years to develop a battery pack and the associated battery management system, this system is expensive and laborious. The new battery from ecovolta itself has been certified as a general solution and can be deployed quickly – whether it’s in a golf cart or a truck.

According to ecovolta, the cost saving can be as much as EUR 500,000 for customers. The battery pack can also be configured in just a few hours. The evoTractionBattery is available in voltages of 24, 48 and 400 volts and capacities of 2.5 to 15 kWh. Up to 16 batteries can be connected in series.

Many companies are now working on drive technologies with solid cells. These are intended to increase the range of electric cars enormously and enable faster charging. According to a report in the “Handelsblatt” , VW has invested EUR 100 million in the start-up QuantumScape to develop batteries of this sort. The Fraunhofer Institute for Silicate Research (ISC) is also working with Varta and other partners on a solid state battery .
