For the Bruker Corporation, the acquisition of Sierra Sensors represents a strategic addition to its portfolio. The manufacturer of scientific instruments as well as analytical and diagnostic solutions for science thus extends its range of mass spectrometry, nuclear magnetic resonance, and X-ray crystallography systems in pharmaceutical research.

Sierra Sensors, based in Hamburg, Germany, is a startup from the portfolio of the High-Tech Gründerfonds . The technologies developed and patented by it are used in high-throughput analysis and mark-free high-performance analysis. Sierra’s biosensors use the SPR method ( Surface Plasmon Resonance ). Its MASS-2 instrument can study thousands of microfluidic samples per day with high sensitivity and measure various aspects of molecular interactions. Bruker has already announced that they want to make Hamburg the new competence center for further product and application development.
