Autonomous vehicles are becoming increasingly important for urban logistics – not so much to transport passengers but rather in the shape of transport capsules for delivering goods. thyssenkrupp Elevator has launched a pilot project as part of a close collaboration with software developer TeleRetai l, in which delivery robots bring spare parts and other materials directly to mechanics at the job site.

If the technicians have to collect the necessary parts from another location themselves, or have colleagues deliver the parts to them, a great deal of valuable time is gobbled-up in the dense inner-city traffic. On the other hand, the autonomous capsules, which can transport a load of up to 35 kg, are also suitable for the sidewalk, since they are only 85 cm wide. They also make it possible to negotiate the traffic-calmed inner city with ease. What’s more, with access to a logistics automation platform, the technicians can keep a constant eye on the delivery status.
