The Future Forum is all about cutting-edge technologies – Siemens offers its own responses to questions about the manufacturing, energy and infrastructure of the future and presents plenty of hands-on innovations at HANNOVER MESSE 2014. Two sleek racecars are one of the group’s highlight exhibits.
Together with the DART Racing Team, students at TU Darmstadt developed and fabricated the theta2013 electric racecar to enter in the Formula Student competition – a design contest where the prizewinning entry must not only be the fastest, but also stand out for its design, construction and cost effectiveness. The team used Siemens’ NX CAD/CAE/CAM system in the design phase. The advantage of this innovative software solution: the vehicle with nearly all its parts was available in a 3D master model, which significantly speeded up the design process. That way the real racecar could be built at top speed.
Companies around the world use product lifecycle management (PLM) software from Siemens to develop, test and improve products virtually – which makes the entire production cycle more efficient. British motorsport stable RML Group also uses Siemens software: its ZEOD RC racecar was developed using the same NX integrated software suite for CAD, CAE and CAM systems. With a top speed of more than 300 kilometers per hour, ZEOD (Zero Emission On Demand) is the fastest electrically powered racecar in the world. Before the prototype was built, it was digitally designed and simulated and virtually assembled. Using Siemens NX software, RML was able to cut the time from product development to market introduction in half and improve quality by 80 percent.
