The group was founded by the German Institute for Standardization (DIN) and the Ministry for Economic Affairs. The planned roadmap is intended to include an overview of existing norms and standards covering aspects of AI and recommendations for activities that are still required. The DIN started developing the standard back in May; the 18-strong steering group held its first meeting on August 1. It is being chaired by Prof. Wolfgang Wahlster, member of the steering group for the Learning Systems Platform .
The roadmap in the area of AI is a top priority for the DIN: “We need a framework for action on AI and thus a precise overview of where norms and standards can provide better support to artificial intelligence,” says the chairman, Christoph Winterhalter. Another aim is to intensify the international work further and bring German and European AI standards up to the international level. Filiz Elmas, Head of AI Business Area Development at the DIN, is coordinating the project: “The roadmap is being drawn up in an open and transparent process and is due to be published at the Digital Summit in 2020.” Anyone interested is invited to contribute to the roadmap; they can contact Elmas directly .
