Automatic lubrication reduces downtimes

Automatic re-lubrication based on sensor data saves up to 30% of lubricants in the digital factory and prevents contamination and malfunctions in the lubrication system. This is Schaeffler’s aim with its new system.

Herzogenaurach is offering a re-lubrication system with which the lubricant supply to roller and linear ball bearing units will be adapted automatically to the load and requirements. According to Schaeffler, this allows downtimes and maintenance costs for production systems to be reduced. The manufacturer is unveiling the system at the HANNOVER MESSE at Stand D43 in Hall 22.

Using its own sensors and an evaluation unit, a guide carriage determines the lubrication condition of up to seven other carriages: by means of the vibration energy of the individual carriage, it determines the lubrication indicator in ongoing operation; when it moves outside the tolerance range, automatic re-lubrication is carried out. The system can be combined with various lubricant sensors, but is also suitable for predictive maintenance and manual lubrication. Schaeffler’s development is therefore right on trend: according to an analysis by the company Roland Berger, the worldwide market for predictive maintenance solutions will grow by 20 to 40% a year up to 2022.
