According to the “ IoT Signals ” report, 85% of companies around the world are already implementing their own IoT projects while that figure is as high as 88% in Germany. Although almost all managers surveyed in the study have security concerns, this does not affect their basic acceptance of the technology. The biggest obstacle to the implementation of IoT projects in almost half of all companies is the shortage of skilled workers. Only the managers of one in three companies are sure they can successfully complete challenging projects with the available resources.

German technology leaders have also recently stepped up their commitment to developing IoT technology. Bosch, for example, launched a campaign for IoT applications at the start of the year, with the declared goal of improving its market position by means of relevant products innovations. SAP also presented a comprehensive IoT suite in the spring. Most companies are expecting a quick return on investment: most participants in the Microsoft study forecast a 30% return on investment in two years.
