The alliance includes South Korean shipbuilder DSME (Daewoo Shipbuilding & Marine Engineering), Finnish software manufacturer NAPA , the Korea Maritime and Ocean University (KMOU), and Austrian company AVL , the world’s leading manufacturer of propulsion systems. Together, they will design digital twin ships that take into account all aspects of shipbuilding, from engine and ship performance through weather data. The cooperation will also cover training, simulations, and the development of a human-machine interface. The aim is to improve the monitoring and analysis of the condition of real ships and to make predictions about their performance.

A platform is already being developed at the KMOU that integrates augmented reality, virtual reality, and digital twin applications. The university has its own training ships and plans to bring to the project the know-how gained from these.
