A survey of 5,000 employees in the DACH region (Germany, Austria and Switzerland) found that digitization continues to make uneven progress, depending on industry and company size. 54% of the respondents nevertheless feel their company does a good job of preparing them for the digital transformation: this is particularly true for start-ups (62%) and corporate groups (58%). SME's (48%) are lagging behind somewhat, as other studies have also shown time and again.
The verdict is even clearer when considering the individual industries. Engineering company employees in particular report a need to catch up: only 42% feel they are well prepared for digital technologies. Internet and IT sectors (73%) as well as consulting (70%) and telecommunications companies (66%) perform much better. According to the findings, only cloud and big data technologies are already widely used in day-to-day business practice. On the other hand, companies continue to make insufficient use of robotics, AI, 3D printing, blockchain and other technologies to exploit the potential of digitization.
