According to the ZVEI , recording €18 billion in January 2019, German electrical and electronic exports were up 4.8% on the previous year. “Overall, 2019 got off to a very mixed start,” says ZVEI Chief Economist Dr. Andreas Gontermann, in light of the fact that production and revenue were down, while exports were up worldwide.

Exports to Europe grew in January 2019 to €11.7 billion, up 5.7% on 2018. Deliveries to the eurozone amounted to €6 billion – an increase of 9.1%. In a comparison of the individual European countries, the highest increases were achieved in Italy (+11.1% to €864 million), Austria (+10.4% to €757 million), and Switzerland (+9.4% to €607 million). Electrical and electronic exports to countries outside of Europe also rose by 3.3% to €6.3 billion. Thailand (+35.2% to €100 million) and Japan (+22.7% to €316 million) saw particularly strong growth.
