A new research center , in which more than 50 scientists from IBM and fortiss will work on AI-based software systems for mission and business critical IoT applications, has been set up at the Watson IoT Center in Munich. fortiss is the name of Bavaria’s research institute for software-intensive systems and services, which is also based in Munich. In collaboration with IBM, researchers from the institute want to develop AI algorithms that promise recognizable benefits and that stand out for their high degree of reliability; the decisions made by the AI should be transparent and comprehensible. These algorithms are destined for use in applications for new digital citizen services and in assistance systems for decision support in autonomous vehicles, as well as for controlling production systems and autonomous robots. To meet the associated high security standards here, the algorithms need to be not only specially protected from external attacks, but also to a certain extent resilient against incorrect input and operator errors.
