The roughly 55,000 square meter production hall and office complex is scheduled to be built at Laatzen business park near Hanover and completed by the end of 2022. The company, which boasts 750 employees, is currently based in a building complex in Hanover that dates from the late 1930s and no longer meets current requirements. At the planned Innovation Center for Extrusion Technology in Laatzen, KraussMaffei Berstorff plans to carry out intricate extrusion experiments on more than 20 machines ranging from small laboratory systems to large-scale production machines. The main aim is to process plastic waste to create new materials.

Production in the new plant will be consistently aligned in accordance with the principles of Industry 4.0 and fully networked, so as to record, visualize, and evaluate data in real time. KraussMaffei Berstorff plans to leverage this increased efficiency boost to optimize its delivery schedules, for example. Matthias Sieverding, President of the Extrusion Technology segment at KraussMaffei, explained that the company had consciously chosen the Hanover region “in order to be able to shape the future together with our experienced employees”. The company is part of the Munich-based Kraus-Maffei Technologies Group, which is not associated with tank manufacturer Krauss-Maffei Wegmann.
