“As Germany’s fourth-largest energy producer, it is only natural for us to expand our generation portfolio to focus on renewable energies in addition to our core lignite business,” explains Dr. Helmar Rendez, CEO of Lausitz Energie Bergbau AG and Lausitz Energie Kraftwerke AG ( LEAG ). The planned photovoltaic power plant will be built on LEAG’s own premises south of Cottbus bordering the Welzow open-cast mine at an airport. As part of the project, LEAG is working together with juwi AG from Rhineland-Palatinate. The company is responsible for project development and will maintain and service the solar park for the first five years. The power plant with a rated output of 10 MW is scheduled to go into operation in October 2019. LEAG plans to market the photovoltaic electricity on its own.
LEAG focuses on solar energy in addition to coal
The Cottbus-based energy company LEAG is expanding its portfolio to include a solar energy project. Together with juwi AG, it is developing a photovoltaic power plant with a capacity of 10 MW in Lower Lusatia that is scheduled to go into operation in 2019.
