The 28-page document in PDF format is primarily aimed at experts and decision-makers from industry and politics. An overview of the state of the art is intended to provide a basic understanding of the subject matter. The document also discusses the possibilities of using AI to ensure the security of networked systems.

It explicitly refers to Industry 4.0 security issues rather than general IT security issues. Only state-of-the-art rather than outdated AI concepts are dealt with. The authors focus on how generative adversarial networks (GAN) function and the role technology plays in a modern security concept. GAN is, after all, capable of developing protection mechanisms to detect malware and at least partially disable it.

The publication was created in an Industry 4.0 platform working group and published by the German Federal Ministry for Economic Affairs and Energy.
