At the end of February, the International Data Spaces Association in Berlin presented concrete results for the secure exchange of data in the added-value chain. The initiative is a peer-to-peer network that supports secure digital data exchange in business ecosystems, a key technology for artificial intelligence applications. The IDS is based on the Fraunhofer-Gesellschaft's Industrial Data Space research project, in which reference architecture for a secure data space and its implementation has been developed on the basis of European values since 2015. This includes identity management, interface integrity and configuration, logging and clearing of data transactions, as well as standardization, certification and auditability.
With 40 use cases from the production, logistics, energy, medicine and telecommunications sectors as well as 98 members from 18 countries, the IDS is well on its way to becoming established as a standard. It is already being used in cloud platforms and software services.
