Electrocon International , headquartered in Ann Arbor, Michigan, develops CAPE (Computer-Aided Protection Engineering) software. The company's products can be used to create detailed models for the analysis and simulation of power grids. The company is being taken over by Siemens for an undisclosed price.

Siemens wants to supplement its Power System Simulation (PSS) software suite and analyze the causes of malfunctions and the resulting power outages more accurately than before. In particular, the focus is on the efficient integration of renewable energies into the power grids. In addition, Siemens intends to use the acquisition to increase its efforts to build digital twins of power grids and related equipment. With CAPE, the group receives the currently most comprehensive and detailed library of relay models.
