The conventional approach to improving organisational aspects like flexibility and quality has always been more-or-less focused on measurable parameters like delivery times, machine downtime and lead time. During this session I will propose a different approach. The entertainment industry, as a parallel, has become extremely customer oriented by focusing on added value for the customer. The centre of this philosophy is the ‘red carpet’ approach. Instead of offering a standard catalogue of easy-to-produce products, the goal of this strategy is to go as far as possible concerning customization and service options. Customers are usually willing to pay hefty premium prices for this added value, while also feeling much more satisfied about the company. In this lecture, Koen will pay attention to the application of this philosophy to the manufacturing industry and will provide examples derived from his experience in both worlds.
