What is presented?
The biomimetic approach that led to the development of the novel strain-stiffening structures from elastic materials is presented on a touch display terminal. Demonstrator structures are also provided.
What is special?
Elastic materials with the novel structure are able to show simultaneous reversible and rate independent strain-stiffening behaviour when the structure is elongated.
What are the potentials?
The novel structure might replace rigid plastic or metal parts in orthoses, as these provide flexibility up to a certain degree of deformation, but show solid behaviour at further deformations. In addition, the structure might also be suitable to constrain degrees of freedom in soft robotic systems.
