Industry 4.0 reduces costs while enabling small production sizes. One goal is to decrease the size of production series, i.e. identical products, to a unique Industry 4.0 -size 1 and still profit from efficiency in production processes. The more the customer and the supplier are able to influence the product and therefore the production, the more important are the safeguards of the production process, which has been a "closed shop". and now is open to customer and supplier input. Interfacing with third party opens production to potential cyber threats, because the exchange of the required information is always takes digital and often using on-line interfaces. In the past, Murray has shown how easy it is to transport malicious code into target systems in "completely normal" and standard-compliant jpg images. Already when sending a desired design-pattern in jpg ? i.e. personal picture to be printed on the product -, it is possible, consciously or unconsciously, to send in malicious code that is infecting the production system and unfolds its harmful effects at any given time. This fact motivates to model the entire process in terms of efficiency, security and safety implications - the brief presentation shows how that works.
