The high lightweight construction potential of fiber reinforced plastics is being used in a steadily increasing number of applications. However, the high component costs, in particular for components made of carbon fibers, are still in the way of widespread use. In addition to raw material costs, the main factors here are the high level of waste material in component production and, in many cases, production processes that cannot be mass produced. The compositing process builds stacks additively from narrow carbon rovings or carbon tapes and can reduce the cut to stack production to 3-6%. Several carbon tapes are applied simultaneously on a workpiece carrier at high speed, the stack is generated layer by layer. Local layouts and individual fiber orientations make it possible to significantly increase lightweight construction potential and further reduce costs.
