Description

The new Center for Electrochemical Energy Storage Ulm & Karlsruhe [http://www.celest.de] (CELEST) is one of the largest and most ambitious research platforms in this area worldwide. CELEST combines application-oriented basic research with close-to-practice development and innovative production technologies. CELEST pools the know-how of 29 institutes of its partners: Karlsruhe Institute of Technology [http://www.kit.edu] (KIT), Ulm University [http://www.uni-ulm.de], and the Center for Solar Energy and Hydrogen Research Baden- Württemberg [https://www.zsw-bw.de/] (ZSW). One focus of CELEST lies on technology transfer, innovation and commercialization of new technologies. Moreover, CELEST contributes to the qualification of young professionals in the graduate school ?Electrochemical Energy Storage?. An outstanding success of the platform was the grant for the cluster of excellence in battery research dealing with ?Energy storage beyond lithium?. The cluster kicks-off in 2019 and it will comprise research on entirely novel battery technologies.
