Full automation of welding processes is not always economical. Particularly in machine and special machine construction, individual customer requirements and small series are day-to-day business. Complete automation does not stand a chance here. The adaptation effort for the machines is too high. Therefore, a collaborative, sensor-guided welding robot was developed for the partial automation of a previously purely manual welding process. Using a control panel, employees select the surfaces or edges to be machined on the 3D model of the workpiece and configure the welding process. The individual programming effort for each workpiece is no longer necessary. Sensors in the tool head detect the contours of the workpiece, the system detects deviations from the design model and automatically compensates for them. The collaborative robot arm can be set up quickly by employees without programming knowledge and relieves them of heavy physical work.
