That resource efficiency requires knowledge of ones own material and energy flows is a matter of fact for many companies. The Material and Energy Flow Analysis (MEFA) is a proven method for presenting this information digitally. However, thanks to the advancing digital transformation, we are able to collect the required data much faster. The questions "How much energy, material or auxiliary material does a certain process or product consume" will be easier to answer due to digitalization.  This creates the necessary transparency to identify the key energy and material consumption as well as cost drivers in order to evaluate improvement measures. This is particularly important nowadays, as the "low hanging fruits" have already been harvested in terms of energy efficiency. As we know today, there is great potential for saving energy and costs by avoiding material losses.
