Based on concepts for structural reinforcement, multi-material approaches and flexible lightweight construction in body, chassis and general vehicle construction, this article looks at composite casting solutions.

The cast production of structural parts has increased due to increased demands on new vehicle architectures. Further concepts also consider composite castings with the goal of component integration. In the series, structural components are produced by die casting or gravity die casting. Pre-series and prototypes are often made by sand casting for time and cost reasons. This also applies to composite or hybrid casting.

Low-pressure sand casting, rapid prototyping and additive manufacturing processes have proven successful for thin-walled and complex components. These are presented and approaches for hybrid casting are shown. The technical procedure

is presented and evaluated technically and temporally as well as possibilities and limits of processes and materials.
