The value of IoT 4.0 applications depends on the availability of data. In most cases,  data should no longer be transmitted in a wire-bound manner because users want mobile applications plus want to save on wiring costs. A new and highly efficient solution are Low Power Wide Area Networks (LPWAN). In this new range of wireless radio standards with an enormous range, the Sigfox standard takes a leadership role.

The example of Airbus´ spare part tracking gives a perfect example for this. It also shows a real application, in which not only the status of the respective good is interrogated and monitored cross-border, but at the same time the current position located. With only one AA battery (Mignon battery), a single sensor can be operated for 10 to 15 years. Sigfox uses the globally released ultra-narrow band radio frequency range, which knows no connection costs and can be used by everyone.
