Description

The energy sector is currently undergoing structural change with far-reaching consequences. Until now, electrical energy has mainly been produced centrally by some large producers, such as coal-fired power plants, and has been passed on hierarchically cascaded to end consumers. The energy turnaround will make electricity production more decentralized and dynamic. The classical picture is changing to a multitude of prosumers of different sizes that both consume and produce electricity. This has particular effects on the network infrastructure and the question of how networks can be kept stable with dynamic feed-in and feed-out behaviour. One way to deal with this is to compare flexibilities via an ICT platform in order to find out how the behaviour of the plants could be adapted to meet demand. Flexibility describes the potential to dynamically adapt generation or consumption behaviour to the needs of the grid or the market.
