42 kg in the car, 99 kg in the light commercial vehicle - after this impressive balance sheet from the first two phases of the Massive Lightweight Construction Initiative (LightweightFORGING), 39 companies from steelmaking and massive forming from Europe, Japan and the USA came together in 2017 to focus on lightweighting potential in a hybridized phase Split-Axle four-wheel drive vehicle, a type of vehicle that will gain in the next few years until the complete electrification of passenger cars is growing rapidly. Another focus is on the gearbox and powertrain with cardan shaft and differential of a heavy commercial vehicle (truck). Accompanying transmission studies additionally determine the primary and secondary effects of lightweight construction for the transmissions of the hybrid vehicle and the truck. Another study clarifies the question of what information is required for the introduction of newly developed higher-strength gear steels for the user. (www.massiverLEICHTBAU.de)
