obz innovation gmbh is one of the first companies in the world to investigate the suspension spraying process within the surrounding of a job shop and to further develop it in the direction of series process capability. This paper presents the development and sampling of suspension sprayed coatings in an industrial environment. The typical material classes are familiar with metals and ceramics from the conventional thermal spraying technique - however, with the properties typical for the suspension spraying process and layer thicknesses (5 - 50 ?m), a variety of new application fields arise. The wish for layers with ever smoother surface, low porosity, high hardness or least possible material consumption is inconsistent with the current standard processes, e.g. Atmospheric plasma spraying (APS) or high-speed flame spraying (HVOF). The spray powders can hardly be used industrially suitable below a particle size of approx. 5 ?m. For this reason, the use of suspensions for providing the spray additive in the burner has been used for some years. In the following article, an overview from the perspective of an industrial company is given, from the production of the suspension to the development of layers and layer optimization up to possible series applications.
