The high quality standard is deeply rooted in the DNA of German companies and especially German Mittelstand businesses and is the reason why "Made in Germany" is a global seal of quality.  The possibilities for companies to guarantee the high quality standards in production consist mainly of manual control by employees or traditional machine vision approaches. However, both possibilities offer some disadvantages which pose challenges for quality assurance companies.  A new way to address these challenges is the use of artificial intelligence in optical quality assurance. This can be used to solve applications in image processing that were previously difficult to cover. Due to the flexibility and the much more cost-effective installation of the technology, inspections that were previously carried out manually can now be automated. In the lecture I will also discuss new documentation approaches.
