Description

As Industrie 4.0 systems move from concept to production stage, they must share real-time data across the workcell, factory, and front office – from edge to fog to cloud. This use of pervasive data requires a new architecture and new approach to connectivity. The top technology connectivity framework standards are the OPC Unified Architecture (OPC UA, managed by the OPC Foundation) and the Data Distribution Service (DDS, managed by the Object Management Group). Both are gaining widespread adoption in industrial systems. These technologies solve entirely different problems. OPC UA simplifies industrial device connectivity, but doesn’t enable system software design. DDS enables system software, but doesn’t directly integrate devices. In Industrie 4.0 environments, they can work together to form a powerful future industrial communication architecture. This presentation will discuss the technology and use cases for OPC UA and DDS.
