An innovative joining process for fibre composites is the joining winding, in which a C-shaped rotor-stator construction and an industrial robot are used to produce joining knots from fibres. Based on the mechanical requirements of the joint, the geometry of the individual profiles including the joining zone is first geometrically modelled in a digital process chain, before the winding paths are mathematically described and modelled. In an iterative FEM optimization, the number of windings is optimized according to the loads while observing the conditions for the windability. Based on the winding paths, a motion model of the winding ring is derived together with the industrial robot. This model considers algorithms for collision avoidance during winding and enables the direct derivation of machine-readable commands for the robot and the PLC of the winding ring, so that a real winding process can be started.
