Description

BIG HIT: Creating a Hydrogen Economy in the Orkney Islands [https://www.bighit.eu/] BIG HIT is creating a hydrogen territory in the  Orkney Islands of Scotland by implementing a fully integrated model of hydrogen production, storage, transportation and utilisation for heat, power and mobility. This presentation will show the progress being made using hydrogen for sector coupling at the local energy system level. This includes optimisation of constrained renewables (wind) with hydrogen as a parallel energy vector. The presentation will give examples of how this allows higher utilisation of locally generated renewable energy into heat, power, and transport applications and the community benefits. This project is recognised as one of the exemplar hyrogen energy system deployments in Europe, an was recently invited to be one of 4 case studies at the EU energy conference at Linz, in Sept 2018.
