What is presented?

Tomorrow's rechargeable battery consists of high-performance, nanostructured silicon anodes and sulfur cathodes. Their higher storage potential allows larger ranges. A demonstrator illustrates the structure of the electrodes; on-site charging shows the short charging time of only 12 minutes.

What is special?

Compared to lithium-ion batteries, the silicon-sulfur batteries have a two to three times higher storage density. Charging times are up to 90 percent shorter. This flame retardant rechargeable battery with silicon is a cost-effective, almost unlimited resource.

What are the potentials?

The batteries are interesting for the areas of electromobility, mobile communications and as a stationary buffer, e.g. for wind turbines. The anodes can be tailored to individual requirements.
