The complexity of the products is increasing, the need to be on the market in time is increasing and digitization in the value chain is progressing. Mechanical engineering is confronted with these challenges and increasingly uses simulation tools in product development. These software tools support the "understanding" of the product - not only for designers and developers. Cross-disciplinary teams are now in a position to participate objectively in the evaluation of product functions. The early validation through simulation saves cost-intensive, late changes and decisions are well prepared and documented. The goal of digitalization in the value chain is the digital twin.
