LNI 4.0 is a pre-competitive and non-profit association founded in 2016 from members of the German Plattform Industrie 4.0. The association goal is to support SMEs in their digital transformation. In addition, LNI 4.0 networks SMEs to test centers. The association has developed over 70 use cases with over 100 SMEs. LNI 4.0 also establishes and moderates testbeds. The advantages of the testbeds are the scaling by SMEs in Industrie 4.0 topics, the openness of the SME co-operation with large enterprises and the validation of standardization projects. A total of three testbeds are moderated LNI 4.0: Time-Sensitive Networks (TSN), C2C Communications and Companion Specs. In the future, asset administrative shell and edge technologies testbeds are in preparation. The example of TSN clearly shows how standardization validation with the SCI 4.0 is implemented in international standardization bodies such as IEEE. Half of the more than 30 testbed partners are SMEs here.
