The definition of an I4.0 component developed in the Industry 4.0 platform stipulates that this consists of the physical object itself and an asset administration shell for the bundled and structured storage of the data that arises over the lifecycle of the component.

The contribution presents the practical implementation of such asset administration shells for the individual components of an exemplary automation scenario. In consideration of the structure prescribed by the Industry 4.0 platform and relevant standardizations, such as eCl@ss a virtual representation is created for each sensor, actuator and each control component, in which all data belonging to the respective component is managed. The interaction of the individual asset administration shells will be exemplified and finally explained how the centrally filed data can be used as a basis for a variety of value-added services as predictive maintenance.
