The increased adoption of machine learning technologies in society reflects improved levels of accessibility of data and information. As our understanding of the properties of statistical methods continues to increase, so will our ability to generate improved insights into the structure of data and make predictions about the future. This constitutes a shift to a more fact-based society where decisions in business and elsewhere are increasing based on quantifiable and rational expectations of the how the world works, rather than qualitative ‘rules-of-thumb’.

This empowers the minority of economic agents with the skills to master the required tools, but also increases the ‘barrier-toentry’.
